The Cleveland Division of the U. S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is open to young men and young women Ages 10 - 18.
The program has two components:
League Cadets** - Ages 10 - 13 (Prior to starting 9th Grade)
Sea Cadets Ages 13 - 18 (Grades 9 - 12)
** Unique situations may apply. We will discuss with you for the best fit for your child.
The Division has Monthly Drills that take place from September through June (approximately matches the school year). The Division will meet a full Saturday and Sunday once a month.
The Division does not have Monthly Drills in July and August since the majority of the Cadets are away having adventures during Summer Trainings.
No, they arrive and depart daily. The Drills are approximately 8 hours each day (Saturday and Sunday)
Each Sea Cadet will go to Recruit Training; usually during the summer. The training is challenging and age appropriate. No “Full Metal Jacket” here. The Sea Cadets enjoy Recruit Training and have many positive memories from the experience.
League Cadets have the opportunity to attend a League Orientation training. This training is optional but is encouraged since it is age appropriate and a lot of fun.
No, there is no obligation to join the military at all. If they do choose to join then they can receive early promotions or potential college scholarships because they participated in the program.
We do have a physical fitness test that the Cadets perform multiple times during the year. We encourage the Cadets to have a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise. That being said, they do not need to be a “star athlete” to pass our physical fitness tests.
There is a one-time uniform deposit collected during initial enrollment. This deposit will be returned after the Cadet concludes the program and returns their uniforms. Our Supply Department will swap their uniforms as they grow. The Division does not provide footwear or undergarments.
The Cadets wear the uniform of the United States Navy with appropriate Sea Cadet identification. They are required to maintain the same grooming requirements as members of the Navy.
For specific examples, visit our Social Media Pages and view the uniform and grooming standards followed by our Cadets.
Yes, The Cadets are required to attend 75% of all Monthly Drill Days. This translates to missing only 5 days per yearly term (10 Month Drill)
Yes, absolutely. Youth Protection is our Number One Priority.
Each of our Adult Volunteers are required to complete you safety courses (including child abuse and neglect reaction training) each year. We strictly follow "two deep leadership" protocols that ensure that your child is in a safe environment.
All Cadets are trained on how to spot and report unsafe practices.
Every parent has a direct-line communication to the Commanding Officer to discuss any concerns.... at any time.
